To provide compassionate, person‑centred support, advice, and guidance to women and families throughout pregnancy and up to three months after birth.

Working closely alongside the Chaplain and wider support network, the postholder will deliver holistic support that addresses practical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing, empowering clients to thrive during the transition to parenthood.

Key Responsibilities

• Client Support

  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with clients throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period.
  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and practical guidance tailored to individual needs.
  • Support clients to identify their strengths, develop confidence, and make informed choices regarding their pregnancy, birth, and early parenting journey.
  • Assist clients in accessing local maternity, health, housing, benefits, education, and community services.
  • Support clients with goal setting and the development of personalised support plans.
  • Promote positive maternal mental health and emotional wellbeing, recognising concerns and escalating appropriately where required.
  • Offer ongoing support during periods of challenge, change, or crisis.

• Holistic and Pastoral Support

  • Work collaboratively with the Chaplain to provide a holistic approach to care that recognises the emotional, social, spiritual, and practical needs of each client.
  • Support clients to explore sources of hope, resilience, purpose, and connection where appropriate and in line with individual beliefs and preferences.
  • Participate in joint support sessions, wellbeing activities, and group programmes where required.
  • Respect and value diverse faiths, beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds at all times.

• Advocacy and Signposting

  • Advocate on behalf of clients where appropriate to ensure they can access relevant services and support.
  • Signpost and refer clients to specialist agencies including midwifery services, health visitors, mental health support, domestic abuse services, housing providers, and community organisations.
  • Encourage clients to engage positively with professional services and support networks.

• Safeguarding and Risk Management

  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and act promptly on any concerns relating to adults, children, or unborn babies.
  • Follow organisational policies and procedures for safeguarding, confidentiality, information sharing, and risk management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions and support provided.

• Team Working

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision sessions, training, and relevant multi‑agency meetings.
  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of services.
