University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated skilled individual to join our small, friendly team within the Women and Newborn care group at the Princess Anne Hospital. The urogynae nurse led service supports patients with overactive bladder, urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders including prolapse. The service provides a wide range of investigations, treatments and care pathways for patients. On average we see 40 patients per day and the department receives consistent praise from patients and visitors that use the service.

Previous experience in urogynaecology is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from motivated candidates with relevant transferable skills and a willingness to learn, as comprehensive training and support will be provided. We are advertising this role at 31.5 hours per week with a minimum uptake of 30 hours required. You will need to be able to work flexibly within the service core hours. We are looking to recruit someone to work Tuesday to Friday.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop knowledge and skills in a range of urogynaecology assessments, investigations and treatments, including urodynamic studies, uroflowmetry, post-void residual bladder scanning, bladder instillations, pessary management, and teaching intermittent self-catheterisation (ISC). For this role, the palliative care course or experience is not required.

The service runs from Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 16:30, with a multi-professional approach incorporating doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists and administrative staff. We are looking for someone to work Tuesday to Friday to meet the service needs.

The post holder will work closely with a multi-professional team across:

  • Southampton specialised pelvic mesh complications service
  • Early pregnancy/gynae assessment unit
  • Theatres

What you’ll do:

  • You will be responsible for providing the safe therapeutic management of a defined patient/client caseload.
  • You will work closely with the multi-professional team.
  • You will gain and have an understanding of urogynaecology and work independently within the urogynae clinics.
  • You will be supported and training will be provided in order to ensure full knowledge and skills required by the role.

We are looking for a caring, motivated individual who:

  • Has a minimum of a Band 5 entry requiring a Degree qualification, 120 credits at L6 or possess an equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant specialist training, experience or portfolio.
  • Competent in urodynamic studies or motivation to undertake training and competence.
  • Possesses excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Is able to work as part of a team and under own initiative.

Full training and mentorship will be provided to support the successful candidate in developing the specialist knowledge and skills required for the role.
