We have a number of exciting opportunities for experienced senior nurses who have clinical experience within Critical Care, Hepatology, Cardiac and Cancer to join our research teams.
The Research Sister plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality clinical research within a busy and dynamic environment.
They will support the development, coordination and delivery of a portfolio of commercial and non-commercial research studies, ensuring that patients and their families have the opportunity to participate in research that advances patient care and improves clinical outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, nurses, allied health professionals, research practitioners, and external sponsors to identify, recruit and support study participants, whilst ensuring studies are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Trust policies and regulatory requirements.
This role contributes directly to UHS's commitment to providing world-class patient care, advancing evidence-based practice and maintaining its reputation as a leading research-active teaching hospital.
The post holder will report to the Senior Research Sister and work collaboratively within the wider Trust Wide Research Team and the Clinical Research Facility.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver a portfolio of clinical research studies within Critical Care, ensuring compliance with study protocols, GCP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, screen, recruit and support patients and relatives participating in research studies, obtaining informed consent or consultee agreement where appropriate.
- Collect, document and maintain accurate research data and study records to ensure data quality, audit readiness and participant safety.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, sponsors and research networks to support successful study delivery and achievement of recruitment targets.
Experience/Skills required
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
- Experience of delivering or supporting clinical research studies, including knowledge of research governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple studies, prioritise workload and work independently within a fast-paced environment.
- Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work flexibly to meet study requirements, including working early, late or weekend working where required.
- Ability to travel between Trust sites and external meetings as required.
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo the appropriate NHS employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to maintaining clinical and research competencies.
