We have an exciting opportunity for an NMC-registered nurse to join our Cancer Research Team at Southampton General Hospital as a Band 5 Research Nurse within our Gastrointestinal Cancer Research portfolio. As a Research Nurse, you will play an important role in delivering a diverse portfolio of cancer research studies from study set-up through to close-out. Working within a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team, you will help ensure participants have access to high-quality clinical research opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of a range of commercial and non-commercial research studies.
  • Identifying, recruiting, consenting and following up patients and participants involved in clinical trials.
  • Administering research treatments, including Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), in line with study protocols and Trust policies.
  • Undertaking clinical assessments and ensuring accurate collection and recording of high-quality research data.
  • Providing care and support to research participants across a variety of settings, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics (such as Hamwic House) and other clinical areas.
  • Working from the Cancer Research Office on E Level while collaborating closely with clinical and research teams across the Trust.
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development projects.
  • Supporting the education and development of healthcare students by acting as a Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor where appropriate.

As part of the GI Cancer Research Team, you will contribute to the delivery of studies across a range of gastrointestinal cancer specialties, including:

  • Oesophageal cancer
  • Other gastrointestinal malignancies

You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of studies involving surgery, chemotherapy and innovative cancer treatments, helping to improve outcomes for patients through research.
