University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. We are seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in glaucoma to join our friendly, supportive and forward-thinking Eye Unit, with an anticipated start date of Nov or Dec 2026. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient care by delivering high-quality, specialist glaucoma services within a collaborative multidisciplinary team known for its innovation and commitment to continuous improvement.

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with expertise or a strong interest in glaucoma, excellent teamwork skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding patient-centred care.

You will:

  • Deliver expert care in the management of complex glaucoma cases
  • Undertake glaucoma clinics and surgical activity, including conventional surgery and MIGS
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the glaucoma service
  • Participate in the teaching and training of resident doctors, nurses, optoms and wider staff
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in glaucoma care and surgical practice

The Southampton Eye Unit is a purpose-built facility with modern dedicated outpatient departments, advanced imaging (including anterior segment OCT, Optos and digital slit lamps) and modern fully equipped ophthalmic theatres with state-of-the-art technology (including intraoperative OCT and 3D NGENUITY). The service manages a large and diverse patient population, providing exposure to a wide range of complex glaucoma cases.
