Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Haematology
Responsibilities
- You'll lead and support training activities across the department, providing guidance to staff undertaking IBMS Registration Portfolios, Specialist Portfolios and apprenticeship programmes.
- You'll undertake staff appraisals, monitor training progress and work closely with departmental Training Officers, educational providers and external stakeholders.
- You'll write, review and update SOPs, competency assessments and training materials to ensure compliance with departmental and accreditation requirements.
- You'll perform audits, contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support the continual development of our quality management system.
- You'll undertake a range of routine and specialist Haematology and Coagulation investigations and contribute to the introduction and validation of new procedures and equipment.
- You'll support the day-to-day operational management of the department and act as a source of scientific and technical expertise for colleagues.
What experience and skills you'll need
- You'll need to be HCPC registered and hold current IBMS Membership or Fellowship.
- You'll need a minimum of three years' post-registration experience and be able to demonstrate active continuing professional development, including a two-year CPD summary.
- You'll need experience of supporting, mentoring or training staff and a genuine enthusiasm for workforce development.
- You'll need excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- You'll need experience of quality management activities, including audits, SOP review and service improvement.
- You'll be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and participate in departmental rotas as required.
Additional Information
This role includes significant responsibility for training, education and competency management and is ideally suited to someone who enjoys developing others.
Previous experience supporting IBMS portfolios, apprenticeships or acting as a Training Officer would be advantageous.
The post is based at Southampton General Hospital within the Haematology and Coagulation Department.
Professional registration, qualification checks and pre-employment screening will be required in line with NHS employment standards.
