We are looking for a Physiotherapy Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Paediatric Physiotherapy Team in Ealing to work with children and young people from 0-18/19 years of age with a variety of neurological, orthopaedic and/or musculoskeletal conditions in community clinics, specialist and mainstream schools and nurseries across the Borough.

The Physiotherapy Assistant will work under the direction and guidance of the physiotherapists in the provision of physiotherapy services to children referred to the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team in Ealing. This will include supporting physiotherapists in carrying out assessments and treatment sessions, setting up and using specialist postural management and mobility equipment, and carrying out independent sessions 1:1 following training from a physiotherapist.

The post holder is required to have previous experience of working as a physiotherapy assistant, and of working with children. Training and ongoing support from the physiotherapy team will be provided, and we are especially looking for someone who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills as an assistant within our team. Flexible working will be considered.

The successful candidate will work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary/Multi agency Team, which includes Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language therapists, Teaching staff, Learning Support Assistants, Educational Social Workers, and Special School Nurses. We are based in the London borough of Ealing, which is a vibrant and diverse Borough that has good transport links to the centre of London by tube, bus and road.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

  • To implement Physiotherapy Programmes under supervision as directed or monitored by the Physiotherapists.
  • Preparing the treatment environment.
  • Carrying out treatment activities.
  • Liaising with other professionals or workers involved.
  • Observing and recording child’s responses.
  • Communicating outcome of treatment session.
  • Assessing child’s progress.
  • Feedback to the therapists any changes or concerns regarding the child’s physical abilities/equipment.
  • Upgrading and advising activities etc.
  • Working in both individual and group situations with the children.
  • To assist in developing and writing individual or group treatment plans.
  • To assist with the provision and organisation of the postural management equipment/mobility equipment.
  • To adapt equipment under the direction of a Physiotherapist.
  • Assist in Hydrotherapy sessions if required.
  • To prepare training materials.
  • To assist in the fabrication/application of splints.
  • To be responsible for the organisation, storage and maintenance of treatment materials and equipment, and report faults/shortage when necessary, in conjunction with other team members.
