Salary - Band 7 inc. HCAS and £5,000 short term RRP (pro-rata reviewed annually).

Contract: 7 days 12 hours (usual to compress hours into 8am-6pm or 8am-8pm shift patterns, which includes 1 weekend per month).

The Ultrasound Service at Mile End Hospital is expanding as part of a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), responsible for a wide range of subspecialties (non-obstetrics) such as General Abdomen, Gynaecology, MSK, small parts and head and neck. Other specialties such as Paediatrics, Obstetrics, and Fertility through potential rotation to other sites The Royal London and St Bartholomew’s hospitals.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and adaptive Sonographers to join our team. The posts are based at Mile End, all staff members are required to participate in the 7-day service, and it is usual to compress hours into 8am-6pm or 8am-8pm shift patterns, which includes 1 weekend per month.

Our CDC Sonography Practice Educator will support your development and training opportunities in collaboration with Clinical Education Lead Sonographer. Novel ways of working and role expansion to develop enhanced and advanced clinical pathways are both supported and encouraged. CASE accredited medical ultrasound qualifications and NHS working as a Sonographer is essential.

Interviews will be held face to face and a clinical assessment after the interview for each candidate.

The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure that appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging at the newly established Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital which will be a 7-day service with 12-hour days Non obstetric service. There will also be the potential to rotate through Mile End Early Diagnostic Centre (EDC), The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Our Sonographers undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post-holder will work within departmental protocols as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient.

The post-holder will also liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the Women’s Health Division, as well as the Radiologists in the General Ultrasound Department.

In the absence of a Lead Sonographer, the post-holder will oversee the day-to-day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively. The post holder will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.
