We admit patients from the Medical Assessment Unit with neurological & general medical conditions and patients are transferred from the acute stroke ward once they are ready to step down to continue their recovery. This creates a fast‑paced and varied caseload, ideal for nurses who enjoy continuous learning and professional growth.

As a Band 6 leader, you will work alongside the Senior Sister to provide strong, visible clinical leadership to our nursing and support staff. You will play a key role in ensuring high standards of patient care, supporting staff development, and contributing to the smooth, safe running of the ward.

We are seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and compassionate nurse with excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for high‑quality patient care. You will bring enthusiasm, motivation, and the ability to inspire and support the team. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the confidence to demonstrate effective leadership in a busy and varied clinical environment.

If you are ready to take the next step in your leadership journey & make a meaningful impact within a supportive and forward‑thinking team, we would love to hear from you.

  • Support the Band 7 Ward Manager to lead a team of staff to provide a high quality service; ensuring excellent standards of patient care are delivered and maintained.
  • Deputise in the absence of the ward manager.
  • Provide effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers on the ward.
  • Act as a role model, mentoring, teaching, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.
  • Be a role model for the team and will motivate and inspire others to be the very best they can be.
  • Ensure all staff are supported to provide high standards of quality care.
  • Complete clinical audits and use them to shape/influence improvement projects.
  • Manage a team of staff ensuring their e-learning and mandatory training are kept up to date.
  • Be a vital point of contact for patients and relatives.
  • Be expected to assist with the general care of the patients.
  • Be visible and approachable on the ward.
  • Escalate concerns where appropriate.
  • Manage datix, complete investigations and implement service improvements.
