Our client, one of the UK’s fastest growing fast-fit automotive businesses, is looking for an Assistant Workshop Manager to join their team at their Sharrow Vale Centre. As an Assistant Workshop Manager / Workshop Controller, you will be the front-of-house technical specialist and deputy who ensures workshop excellence, safety, productivity, and technical quality across the Centre. This is a 50/50 role managing the workshop while working as a senior technician, including leading quality checks, final inspections, and supporting workload and deadlines.

Location: Sharrow Vale

Shift and schedule:

  • 08.30 to 17.30 Monday to Friday with a set day off in the week
  • Every Saturday 08:30 – 16:00

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own productivity and technical quality, optimising bay utilisation, job allocation, and labour efficiency to deliver right-first-time work and maximise workshop output.
  • Be an efficient member of the team carrying out a range of repairs, services, and diagnostics.
  • Maintain and drive achievement of personal and collective workshop productivity targets, labour efficiency rates, ramp utilisation, and key operational KPIs, implementing corrective actions where needed to optimise performance and output.
  • Maintain the highest standards of technical quality, vehicle safety, and workmanship, leading quality checks, final inspections, and continuous improvement in technical standards across the workshop.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop technicians on a day-to-day basis, raising technical capability, embedding new operating model standards, and supporting skill development and career progression.
  • Step up confidently to lead centre operations and make operational decisions in the Centre Manager’s absence, ensuring continuity of service, standards, and team performance.
  • Drive compliance, safety, and data integrity in the workshop, partnering with Area Compliance on audits and risk assessments while contributing accurate technical records and performance KPIs.

What you’ll need to be considered for the role:

  • Strong technical background as a qualified vehicle technician/mechanic with proven diagnostic and repair experience.
  • (Ideal) Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader, or senior technician role (workshop, fast-fit, or dealership environment) e.g. Workshop Controller, Workshop Manager.
  • Experience with EV/high-voltage systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
  • Continuous improvement experience in a workshop setting.
  • Hold a level 3 qualification in light vehicle maintenance & repair.
  • Valid UK driving licence – Essential.
