Reports to: Clinical Lead / Consultant Psychologist (Consultant Psychiatrist for prescribing interface)

Contract: Full Time and remote / clinic based 37.5 hours

Role Purpose

To undertake high-quality, evidence-based ASD/ADHD assessments for children aged 6+, young people, and adults, contributing to accurate diagnosis, robust clinical formulation, and MDT decision-making in line with NICE NG87, DSM-5 / ICD-11, and CQC standards. To produce accurate reports in line with service requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • ASD/ADHD Assessment & Formulation
    • Conduct comprehensive ASD/ADHD assessments across the lifespan
    • Take detailed developmental, educational, occupational, and psychosocial histories
    • Use validated tools including: Conners (parent/teacher/self), SNAP-IV, DIVA-5 (adults), ADOS
    • Analyse multi-informant data and clinical observations
    • Formulate clear diagnostic conclusions using DSM-5 / ICD-11
    • Consider and document differential diagnoses including: Autism Spectrum Condition, Anxiety and mood disorders, Trauma, Learning difficulties, Attachment and emotional regulation difficulties
  • MDT & Diagnostic Governance
    • Present cases at ASD/ADHD diagnostic MDT meetings
    • Contribute to consultant-led diagnostic decisions
    • Escalate complex presentations appropriately
    • Support quality assurance and audit processes
    • Attend team meetings where needed
  • Reporting & Feedback
    • Produce high-quality diagnostic reports suitable for: Clients and families, GPs, Schools / colleges, Local authorities
    • Deliver feedback sessions to parents/carers and adults
    • Produce child-friendly summary letters where required
    • Ensure reports meet NHS and Right to Choose standards
    • Collect feedback through Doctify or similar
  • Safeguarding & Professional Practice
    • Identify safeguarding concerns and follow local safeguarding procedures
    • Complete risk assessments where indicated
    • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records
    • Work within consent, Gillick competence, and Mental Capacity Act frameworks
    • Participate in: Supervision, CPD, Service development and governance activity, MAST (Mandatory and Statutory Training)

Essential Criteria

  • Doctorate or equivalent qualification in: Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Practitioner Psychology
  • Registered Healthcare professional
  • Professional registration
  • Formal training and experience in ASD/ADHD assessment minimum of 1 year experience
  • Strong knowledge of: NICE NG87, DSM-5 / ICD-11
  • Experience assessing children and/or adults
  • Excellent formulation and report-writing skills
  • Minimum of 1 year experience of diagnostic and report writing in a health setting

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with Right to Choose ADHD pathways
  • Experience assessing ADHD and Autism together
  • ADOS training/experience
  • Experience working in NHS or CQC-registered services
  • Trauma-informed practice
