The Senior University Lawyer is the University’s principal legal adviser, responsible for shaping and overseeing the institution’s legal approach and for overseeing the delivery of high quality and efficient legal services to the institution and its internal stakeholders.
Working under the leadership of the Director of Governance, Legal and Vice Chancellor’s Office, the postholder will ensure the University receives clear, forward-looking legal guidance that supports sound decision making and protects institutional interests. This will involve advising on a wide range of matters, including:
- Drafting and reviewing commercial and academic contracts
- Managing litigation and dispute resolution processes
- Co-ordinating the provision of external legal services as required
The Senior University Lawyer also has responsibility for the Student Casework team, which manages student complaints, academic appeals and disciplinary matters. They oversee the management of information governance and data protection. The postholder will directly line manage the Student Casework Manager and Information Governance Manager.
