We're looking for enthusiastic Healthcare Assistants to join our Emergency Department at a pivotal point in its development. As part of an exciting departmental reconfiguration, we're expanding both our workforce and the way we deliver urgent and emergency care. This is an opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking team as we develop our services, enhance patient flow and create new ways of working across both our Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit (MIU).
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two shifts are ever the same. Working across the whole department, you'll play an essential role in supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate and efficient patient care while developing a broad range of clinical skills in one of the busiest and most dynamic areas of the hospital.
Please note, this role does not currently meet the salary requirement for visa sponsorship. From the 9th April 2025, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa became £25,000 per year. While this role may be offered at a higher point on the pay scale depending on relevant NHS experience, most new starters are appointed at the bottom of the band, which does not meet the salary threshold. Previous applicants need not apply.
As a Band 3 Clinical Support Worker, you'll be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, working alongside nurses, consultants, doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, therapists and other healthcare professionals to provide outstanding care to patients from the moment they arrive. This is far more than a traditional healthcare support worker role.
Working across both the Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit, you'll undertake a wide range of clinical duties, helping to assess, investigate and support patients throughout their journey. Working under the direction of registered practitioners and within your competencies, you'll provide high-quality patient care while helping the department maintain safe and effective patient flow.
As part of this varied role, you'll undertake enhanced clinical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, recording and escalating observations, performing 12-lead ECGs, and supporting patients through investigations and treatment. You'll work closely with the nursing, medical and consultant teams, becoming an integral part of delivering safe and efficient emergency care.
As a designated Major Trauma Centre, you'll also undertake specialist training to become a Trauma Scribe, playing a vital role during trauma calls by accurately documenting assessments, interventions and key timings to support the trauma team during the management of critically injured patients.
