Are you an experienced Front-End Developer who can lead the development of products that help teams design and deliver exceptional digital services? Our Senior Front-End Developers are experts in building and scaling high-quality digital products. We're looking for a Senior Front-End Developer to join our talented teams and Front-End community.
You'll play a key role in developing and evolving the DWP Design System, a strategic product that enables teams to deliver consistent, accessible and user-centred services more efficiently through reusable design patterns and components. As a Senior Front-End Developer, you'll provide technical leadership, share your expertise, champion best practices and help drive the adoption of high-quality Front-End development across DWP Digital.
What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
- Proven experience designing and delivering accessible, user-centred interfaces that meet WCAG 2.2 standards with a focus on producing well-tested robust and maintainable code.
- Strong experience integrating Front-End applications with back-end services and other technical systems, selecting appropriate technologies and approaches to solve complex challenges.
- Demonstrable experience providing technical leadership, setting direction and driving quality, consistency, standards and best practices across development teams.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary agile teams collaborating and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality digital products.
- A passion for coaching and mentoring others, creating an inclusive learning culture that supports capability growth and continuous improvement.
You and your role
- You will lead the development of reusable Front-End patterns, components and code libraries, helping to shape the technical direction of the Design System and contributing to cross-government standards and shared solutions.
- You'll build, release, maintain and support Front-End products and code packages, using modern tooling, test-driven development and iterative delivery practices to ensure robust high-quality outcomes.
- You'll champion accessibility, user experience and design consistency ensuring products and components meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards and align with established design and engineering principles.
- As a technical leader, you'll mentor colleagues, engage with engineering and user-centred design communities and help teams overcome technical challenges.
- You'll also identify and manage technical and business constraints, set priorities effectively and contribute to the continuous improvement of government frameworks, standards and ways of working.
Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield whichever is most convenient for you.
Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
Pay: We offer competitive pay from £57,946 to £80,664. The maximum salary for the grade is £68,205, however a Digital Allowance of up to £12,459 per annum is available for exceptional candidates.
Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £16,786 per year.
Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 25 days rising to 30 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
