At Tarmac, who you are matters. We are looking for a strategic, commercially minded and transformational leader to join our National Performance team as a Senior Contracting Performance Manager. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future performance of one of the UK's leading contracting businesses, delivering measurable improvements that drive growth, efficiency and long-term success.
Based within our National Performance division, you'll work closely with senior leaders across the business to optimise performance, lead major improvement programmes and support the delivery of ambitious business objectives. Reporting to the Contracting Performance Director, you'll be at the forefront of driving operational excellence, leading initiatives designed to improve profitability, maximise efficiency and embed a culture of continuous improvement across the contracting business.
This is a highly visible leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence national strategy, develop high-performing teams and engage with key stakeholders across the UK and wider CRH network.
What You'll Be Doing
As Senior Contracting Performance Manager, you'll lead the delivery of strategic performance improvement initiatives that support business growth and help achieve ambitious EBITDA targets. Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive continuous improvement strategy aligned with national contracting objectives
- Identifying, leading and delivering optimisation projects that drive operational efficiencies, cost savings and commercial performance improvements
- Managing and developing a team of Continuous Improvement Analysts, creating a high-performance culture focused on innovation, collaboration and results
- Establishing and maintaining performance management frameworks, dashboards and reporting tools that provide clear insight into business performance
- Analysing operational data, identifying trends and performance gaps, and facilitating root cause analysis to create sustainable solutions
- Working closely with regional and national operational teams to review KPIs, agree improvement plans and drive accountability for results
- Partnering with senior leaders to develop joined-up strategies that maximise value across the contracting business
- Driving engagement with internal stakeholders, external customers and industry bodies to enhance collaboration, identify opportunities and strengthen Tarmac's market position
- Championing change, innovation and best practice, ensuring continuous improvement is embedded throughout the organisation
What We Are Looking For
We're seeking an experienced leader with a passion for driving business transformation, operational excellence and sustainable performance improvement. You'll bring:
- Significant experience in performance management, continuous improvement, operational leadership or transformation roles within contracting, infrastructure, construction or a related sector
- Strong commercial awareness with a proven ability to deliver measurable improvements in financial and operational performance
- Demonstrable experience leading large-scale improvement programmes and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to turn complex data into meaningful insights and strategic recommendations
- Experience developing performance frameworks, reporting systems and KPI-driven improvement plans
- Proven leadership capability with a track record of building, motivating and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation
- Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire change and secure buy-in across diverse stakeholder groups
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business or a related discipline. Higher-level qualifications would be advantageous
