Duties as Secondary Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils across different subjects
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and accessible learning activities
  • Support pupils with additional needs to ensure full participation in lessons
  • Promote positive behaviour and follow school behaviour expectations
  • Help prepare resources and assist with general classroom organisation
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and good study habits
  • Monitor pupil progress and share relevant observations with teaching staff
  • Support wider school duties and routines during longer-term placements

Ideal Secondary Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting pupils in a secondary school setting
  • Understanding of strategies for supporting mixed-ability and SEND learners
  • Calm, patient, and able to build positive, supportive relationships with pupils
