Key Responsibilities:
- To manage a caseload of designated schools or area as the named health professional, with responsibility for the planning and delivery of the public health initiatives to the caseload.
- To be responsible for identifying need within a school or community through profiling.
- To use a child, young person public health approach to address health inequalities, including the promotion of good health and the prevention of ill health in the school, supporting schools to manage children and young people with medical conditions.
- To support the implementation of service development, standard setting, clinical audit and benchmarking, to deliver needs-led evidence-based care that supports the local and national priorities and policies.
- To be the principal point of contact for allocated schools in an area/locality.
- To develop and deliver co-operative working arrangements with schools that support healthy outcomes for children and young people and facilitate partnership working across schools and other partner organisations.
- To work with public health, local statutory, private and voluntary providers, and users to develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections of the schools community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerable groups and individuals to support social inclusion.
- To participate in the Early Health Assessment process and support the lead professional as appropriate.
- To provide and promote access to information and other services, to refer as appropriate.
- To liaise and work in partnership with statutory and non-statutory agencies, and other health services colleagues.
- To identify children in need and children in need of protection, and work with other agencies to support vulnerable families.
- To adhere to current Local Safeguarding Board and London Child Protection Procedures.
- To participate in regular discussion with Clinical Locality and Safeguarding Team about children giving cause for concern.
- To maintain and develop clinical skills in response to the changing needs, including outbreaks of communicable diseases, programmes of immunisation and health promotion.
- To take responsibility for the delivery of extended health services and specialist community clinics as appropriate.
- To take the lead for a clinical area (to be agreed on appointment) and be responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge and passing information to the whole service. This may include a training role, producing and maintaining standards, protocols.
- To undertake any other duties as required by the Team Leader, SHWS Lead or Director, as required providing it is within the incumbent's sphere of competence.
- To run training/advice sessions for colleagues, parents/carers, schools and other service users.
