The Band 4 Nursing Associate within the Surgical Admissions Lounge and Day Case Unit supports the safe and efficient admission and preparation of patients for surgery. Working closely with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, they undertake observations, complete pre-operative checks, and ensure patients are ready for theatre. The role is key to maintaining patient flow, enhancing theatre efficiency, and delivering a high-quality, patient-centred experience.
- Working across all areas of the Day Surgery Unit, including pre-operative assessment, theatre support, and postoperative recovery.
- Admitting day-case patients, completing pre-operative checks, and preparing them for their surgical procedure.
- Providing safe and effective nurse-led discharge, ensuring patients receive appropriate post-operative instructions, information, and support.
- Monitoring physiological observations and providing reassurance and support to patients throughout their time in the Unit.
- Offering emotional support to patients and their families, helping them feel informed and reassured throughout their day surgery journey.
- Delivering safe and effective post-operative recovery care in accordance with Day Surgery and recovery protocols.
- Ensuring high standards of infection prevention and control are maintained at all times.
- Liaising with wards, theatres, and other Allied Health Professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care.
- Complying with all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), clinical guidelines, and Trust policies.
- Maintaining a safe clinical environment and adhering to all health and safety requirements.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK. Please note an NMC PRN Pin is not a full NMC Pin and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role. The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
