We're looking for a caring and dedicated Safeguarding & Pastoral Support Officer to join a welcoming and inclusive Further Education college in the Peterborough area this September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in supporting learners both academically and personally, helping to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

The Opportunity

As a Safeguarding & Pastoral Support Officer, you'll work closely with learners, teaching staff, parents, carers, and external agencies to provide effective pastoral support and ensure safeguarding concerns are managed appropriately.

You'll be a vital part of the student support team, helping learners navigate challenges, improve wellbeing, and access the support they need to achieve positive outcomes.

  • What You'll Be Doing
  • Managing and responding to safeguarding concerns, disclosures, and referrals
  • Providing pastoral support to learners facing personal, emotional, or wellbeing challenges
  • Working closely with designated safeguarding leads and wider support teams
  • Liaising with parents, carers, local authorities, social care teams, and external agencies
  • Maintaining accurate safeguarding records, reports, and case notes
  • Supporting risk assessments, action plans, and safeguarding investigations where required
  • Promoting safeguarding awareness and a positive culture of wellbeing across the college
  • Supporting attendance, engagement, and learner retention initiatives
  • Providing advice, guidance, and signposting to appropriate support services

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within safeguarding, pastoral support, student welfare, youth work, education, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality
  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable adults
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting learners and promoting positive outcomes
