Teaching Assistant Year 2 (1:1 SEMH Support) - Runcorn

Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Runcorn.

The school is looking to appoint a compassionate, resilient and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time temporary basis from September.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support a new pupil joining the school in Year 2.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping the child settle into their new school environment, build positive relationships and access learning.

The pupil is a Looked After Child (LAC) with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and has experienced significant early-life deprivation.

The school is seeking a nurturing individual who understands the importance of trauma-informed practice and can provide consistent, supportive guidance throughout the school day.

Your new role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the Year 2 class teacher, SENDCO and wider pastoral team to provide dedicated 1:1 support for the pupil.

Your focus will be on helping them feel safe, valued and engaged in school while supporting their academic, social and emotional development.

You will build a trusting relationship with the pupil, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs and using positive, therapeutic strategies to encourage engagement, emotional regulation and resilience.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Implementing consistent, positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Supporting the pupil to access the Year 2 curriculum through differentiated learning activities.
  • Delivering regular wellbeing check-ins and promoting emotional literacy.
  • Encouraging the development of positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Supporting structured play, break and lunchtime activities to aid social interaction.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCO, external agencies and carers to ensure a consistent approach.
  • Monitoring progress, recording observations and contributing to support plans where appropriate.
