A Personal Assistant is required to support a friendly and active child with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and speech and language needs. The child is a multimodal communicator and uses some limited Makaton signing. He enjoys a range of activities including building train tracks, fitting number mats together, completing puzzles, and looking at books. He also responds well to sensory-based activities, particularly using a peanut ball and other activities that help meet his sensory needs.
Main Duties:
- Support to access and enjoy community activities.
- Encourage participation in outdoor play, visits to parks, shops, and soft play centres.
- Engage him in activities that reflect his interests and support his development.
- Provide opportunities for sensory-based play and activities.
- Offer gentle encouragement and reminders regarding personal care, including toileting and handwashing.
- Promote independence, confidence, and social engagement in a safe and supportive manner.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be patient, caring, and reliable.
- Have an understanding of autism and communication differences.
- Be able to build a positive and trusting relationship.
- Be enthusiastic about supporting children to access community activities and develop independence.
- Experience of Makaton, autism, or working with children with additional needs would be beneficial, although not essential.
