We are seeking highly motivated, conscientious, and customer-focused individuals to join our Emergency Department (ED) Reception teams at Queen’s Hospital (QH) and King George Hospital (KGH). We are recruiting to a range of part-time substantive contracts of 30, 22.5, and 15 hours per week. This is a cross-site role, and successful applicants will be required to work at both Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital.

The post involves working an 8-week rolling rota, providing a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week service, including weekends, nights and bank holidays. Shift patterns include:

  • You must be able to work all shift patterns, including night shifts, and work across both hospital sites.
  • Please note that the post will involve a significant amount of weekend working.

As an ED Receptionist, you will provide an efficient, professional, and welcoming front-of-house reception service within a busy and fast-paced emergency care environment. You will undertake a variety of administrative and clerical duties while supporting patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.

The role requires individuals who can remain calm and professional under pressure, demonstrate empathy and compassion, and communicate effectively with people who may be distressed, anxious, unwell, or experiencing difficult circumstances. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills, experience of working with the general public, and the ability to respond sensitively and professionally to challenging situations. You will be flexible, adaptable, organised, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

To provide an efficient and effective front of house reception service to all patients, relatives and colleagues who present to the Emergency Departments. Ensure all reception practices are adhered to. Follow correct uniform policy and have staff ID & name badge displayed at all times.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance. We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
