Personal assistant required, funded through a direct payment, to enable a teenage male to safely access the local community, attend groups and activities, build independence while out in the community, as well as pursue his own likes and interests under full adult 1:1 supervision.
We are looking for a Personal Assistant to support our son, who likes football, swimming, dancing, theatre/performing arts, DJ'ing, playing Minecraft, and has a flair for rock music (Elton John is a big favourite), to enable him to access and pursue hobbies and interests in the local community. Our son requires 1:1 supervision and lacks insight into potential dangers; he would require support to maintain his safety while out in the community.
We would love for our son to be able to access local groups, parks, public spaces and local shops to build his confidence and independence and to pursue his own activities and interests in a safe and supported manner. We are looking for a kind, patient and understanding person who our son would enjoy spending time with while pursuing hobbies and interests in the community.
The ideal candidate will have prior knowledge and/or experience of working with young people with disabilities such as autism and ADHD. The PA would also need to have access to their own vehicle (mileage costs to be mutually agreed). This role is for weekend work during term time, with more flexibility on days and hours in school holidays.
Main Duties:
- To support the individual to access community-based activities, clubs and groups with 1:1 supervision.
- To access hobbies and interests such as swimming, football and local drama clubs/theatres.
- To develop life skills and confidence while accessing the local community such as using public transport and visiting local shops.
- To provide prompts for toileting.
- To maintain their own safety while accessing the local community.
Essential skills/experience:
- Experience of working with young people.
- Experience of working with complex additional needs - specific details to be provided at interview.
- Full driving license and access to own vehicle.
5.6 weeks' holiday per year (pro-rata). Sick pay at SSP rate (if applicable). Access to training and free professional development modules. Mileage - 45p per mile, to be agreed and paid in addition to hourly rate.
