We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at Seren Gobaith Independent Hospital.

As a Support Worker, you will assist in providing care and support to patients with a variety of mental health conditions.

You will work closely with nursing and medical teams to ensure the safety, comfort, and well‑being of patients while promoting their recovery and independence within a secure and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient

Support:
Provide personal care and assistance to patients, including support with daily activities such as eating, personal hygiene and therapeutic activities.

Encourage and support patients in their recovery, helping them to engage in therapeutic activities and treatment programs.

Assist in the implementation of care plans, ensuring that patients individual needs are met.

Foster positive relationships with patients, offering emotional support and encouragement.

  • Monitoring & Observation:
    Monitor patients' mental and physical well‑being, reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing team.

Assist in managing patient behaviours, de‑escalating situations when necessary, and ensuring patient and staff safety.

Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, adhering to safety protocols and hospital guidelines.

  • Therapeutic

Activities:
Support patients in participating in therapeutic and recreational activities designed to promote their well‑being and recovery.

Encourage social interaction, independence, and skill development by assisting patients with daily living activities.

Help patients set and achieve personal goals, promoting empowerment and self‑esteem.

  • Team

Collaboration:
Work closely with registered nurses, mental health professionals, and other support workers to provide holistic care for patients.

Attend team meetings and contribute to discussions about patient care, behaviour management, and treatment planning.

Follow care plans and assist in delivering individualized interventions under the guidance of nursing and clinical staff.

  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of patient care, activities, and progress.

Document observations, changes in behaviour, and any incidents or concerns, reporting to the appropriate team members.

Support the nursing team in carrying out assessments and evaluations.

  • Patient Advocacy & Safeguarding:
    Promote and protect the rights of patients, advocating for their needs and preferences where possible.

Adhere to safeguarding policies and ensure patients are always treated with dignity and respect.

Report any concerns regarding patient welfare or safety to the appropriate person immediately.

  • Health & Safety:
    Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for both patients and staff.

Follow infection control and health and safety procedures, ensuring the safety of both patients and colleagues.

Participate in maintaining the physical environment of the hospital, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order and any risks are reported.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Essential:
    No formal qualifications required, but a willingness to learn and develop within the role.

Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature with a strong desire to help others.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.

Ability to remain calm and patient when dealing with challenging situations.

  • Desirable:
    A qualification in Health and Social Care (e. g., NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or similar).

Experience working in a mental health or secure care environment.

Basic knowledge of mental health conditions and common therapeutic approaches.

First aid certification or other relevant training.

  • Working Hours:
    Full‑time 42 hours per week (including nights, weekends, and bank holidays) to ensure 24‑hour care for patients.
