We are seeking an experienced Regional Environmental Compliance Manager to play a key role in the management of environmental risk across our banking client's UK real estate portfolio. Working closely with ISS, the client and other stakeholders, you will drive environmental performance improvements and ensure building operations are conducted in line with environmental management system standards and compliance obligations.

We are looking for an environmental compliance specialist to manage and develop the UK environmental compliance programme, with a strong focus on ISO 14001 environmental management systems, legal compliance, environmental risk management and governance. This role will act as the primary environmental compliance contact for the UK region, working collaboratively with regional and global teams to support compliance, assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management and continual improvement of the UK ISO 14001 environmental management system, including system administration, management reviews and coordination of internal and external audits.
  • Manage the UK environmental compliance programme, including legal compliance assessments, monitoring regulatory changes, corrective action tracking and compliance reporting.
  • Maintain oversight of environmental legal registers and compliance obligations relating to permits, licences, consents and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and assess environmental aspects and impacts across the portfolio, evaluating risks and ensuring appropriate control measures and environmental management plans are implemented.
  • Develop and maintain environmental incident response processes, including testing, training, incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Manage the pollution risk assessment programme, including delivery planning, coordination of external auditors and closure of corrective actions.
  • Organise and chair the UK environmental compliance and pollution forums, driving engagement and best practice across stakeholders.
  • Oversee environmental data management activities, including data verification, validation, reporting and performance monitoring.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance testing, certification and assurance activities delivered by third-party providers and specialist consultants.
  • Support wider quality, assurance and sustainability initiatives across the client's UK operations and contribute to the sharing of innovation and best practice across global teams.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental compliance, environmental management or HSE roles, ideally within facilities management, property management, corporate real estate or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems and environmental compliance frameworks.
  • Good understanding of environmental legal requirements, including permits, licences, legal registers, discharge consents, trade effluent consents and pollution prevention controls.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance programmes rather than conducting audits directly, with a solid understanding of audit processes and auditor management.
  • Ability to engage effectively with engineering and operational teams, including conducting site visits and reviewing plant room operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance obligations relating to waste management, ESOS, climate change legislation, climate change agreements and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Experience using environmental compliance and reporting platforms such as Enhesa and Greenstone.
  • Strong analytical, commercial and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate technical information into clear business-focused recommendations.
  • Experience working within customer-facing environments and collaborating across complex, multi-stakeholder organisations.
  • Good understanding of sustainability and ESG topics and their relationship with environmental compliance and operational performance.
