About the role:
Activate Learning is excited to invite a dedicated and experienced Barbering Teacher to join our team, where you will play a key role in delivering exceptional teaching and learning experiences to students pursuing the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering. We are seeking a passionate professional with a blend of industry expertise and a genuine commitment to education. This position offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of barbers by equipping students with both practical and theoretical skills necessary for success in the industry.
Your responsibilities will include planning and delivering lessons that cover the full scope of the barbering curriculum, as well as assessing student progress. You will provide essential support and guidance to ensure each student reaches their full potential and is well‑prepared for a career in barbering. This is a permanent position at our Reading College campus and we would consider applicants for a full-time (37 hours) or part‑time (29.6 hours per week, 0.8 FTE) role. You will be teaching two evenings per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with later starts on other days each week to compensate.
What do you need to be a successful Barbering Teacher at Activate Learning?
We are looking for someone who not only brings strong technical knowledge but can also serve as positive role models for our students. A successful candidate will inspire and motivate learners, guiding them to achieve both their professional qualifications and the key personal attributes necessary for thriving in the workplace. Your enthusiasm for helping young people develop will be at the heart of this role. To excel in this role, candidates should possess up‑to‑date experience and knowledge of the hairdressing and barbering industries. Additionally, they should be committed to fostering the skills of future professionals.
Specific qualifications and experience that will help you succeed include:
- A barbering or hairdressing qualification at level 2 is essential, and we'll train you in level 2 barbering if you don't already have it.
- Experience in delivering education or training is highly desirable.
- A teaching or assessing qualification would both be desirable.
- Applications from experienced Hairdressers with a specialism in men's hair are encouraged.
We recognise that many skilled professionals working predominantly with men's hair may come from a hairdressing background rather than a traditional barbering pathway. Where appropriate, we will support successful candidates with additional barbering‑specific training and professional development to broaden their expertise and help them excel within the role.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about the Barbering trade and eager to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of Barbering professionals. With the support and resources offered by Activate Learning, you'll have the opportunity to grow as an educator and make a lasting impact on your students' futures.
