Renowned for high-quality formulations, expertise and product performance, they are now seeking to hire a QC Chemist to join their technical team in Greater Manchester.
This role will be laboratory-based and hands-on, focusing on quality control (QC) testing, batch approval support and technical problem-solving across raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
This represents an excellent opportunity for candidates with proven QC or technical laboratory experience within paints, coatings, chemicals or other related manufacturing environments within industrial chemicals.

- Role / Description
- Perform quality control (QC) assessments on incoming raw materials, products in manufacture and finished goods to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Undertake a variety of laboratory evaluations including colour, viscosity, density, p H, gloss, opacity, drying characteristics, adhesion, stability and application performance testing.
- Contribute to batch release activities by interpreting test data, identifying deviations and highlighting any quality concerns requiring further investigation.
- Support the investigation of manufacturing, product quality and customer-related issues, helping to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Assist with colour verification, tint accuracy checks and shade correction activities to maintain consistency across product ranges.
- Produce test panels, drawdowns and application samples to assess both the visual appearance and functional performance of coating products.
- Ensure all laboratory results, quality records, specifications and supporting documentation are completed accurately and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
- Carry out routine calibration, verification and upkeep of laboratory instruments to guarantee reliable and reproducible test results.
- Liaise with colleagues across production, technical and commercial functions to support product quality objectives and continuous improvement projects.
- Provide support with raw material assessments, competitor product reviews and formulation-related activities where required.
Requirements
- Proven industrial experience within a QC, or analytical testing laboratory within the chemicals sector.
- Experience gained within decorative paints, surface coatings, chemicals or a manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
- A degree, HNC, HND or similar qualification in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline would be beneficial.
- Practical understanding of paint and coatings testing methods including colour, viscosity, p H, density and applied coating performance.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to investigate technical and quality issues and provide practical solutions.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across technical and production teams.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and quality systems.
- Full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
