We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced,dynamicand enthusiastic physiotherapist to undertake the role of a static Band 6 Physiotherapist working at the NRU at Royal Preston Hospital.

Our 16-bedded inpatient neuro-rehab unit based at Royal Preston Hospital is a regional centre - providing specialist rehabilitation for patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are looking for a passionate,motivatedand caring physiotherapist who has experience in neurological assessment,treatmentand discharge planning.

You will work in a friendly and supportive integrated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team, which is part of a large multi-disciplinary team providing diverse rehab for patients with complex neurological care needs.

You should have clinical experience of working with patients who have complex neurologicalimpairment, andhave clinical reasoning skills that allow you to provide individualised assessment and treatment of complex movement problems.

LTHTR is a regional centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, a Major Trauma Centreand has recently welcomed a newly expanded Critical Care Unit. You will work with patients of varying ages and backgrounds that have experienced life-changing neurological illness or injury. Common conditions include Traumatic Brain Injury, Hypoxic Brain Injury, Encephalitis, Spinal Cord Injury andGuillian-Barre Syndrome.

As a physiotherapy team we follow aBobathcentred approach to rehabilitation aiming to treat every patient as an individual using normal movement knowledge, therapeutic handlingskillsand specialist treatment skills.Alongside developing specialist clinical rehab skills there will be the opportunity to attend courses (both internally and externally) to develop your skills further.

Your role will involve leading patient goal setting meetings, discharge planning and working closely with other health professionals both within and outside of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust.

To directly support the delivery of therapy to patients

• Management of own caseload and prioritisation based on clinical need, and support for others to do the same
• Assessment, differential diagnosis, clinicalreasoningand analysis recorded clearly in patients notes
• Reasoned treatment and management plans recorded in patient notes
• Delivery of a wide range of specialist treatment and management options to meetpatients complexclinical need
• Demonstrateahigh levelof assessment and treatment physical skills in the application ofPhysiotherapyapproaches(therapeutic handling)

To provide leadership and management support

• Deputisationfor the therapy team leadsin their absence or in delegated areas of responsibility

To support personal and people development

• Own appraisal and Personal Development Plans are completed as per Trust Policy including the development of achievement of rotational objectives
• Appraisal of named members of the team as per Trust Policy and schedule
• Demonstration of a commitment to independent learning including anup to dateknowledge of professional practice
• Demonstrationofhigh levelsof skills and knowledge in specialist area through support for other team members development
• Supervision of and support for the training and education of therapists,assistantsand undergraduate therapists

To communicate and collaborate with all Integrated Therapies Service (ITS) stakeholders

• Effective communication of sometimes distressing information to patients and carers concerning diagnosis,prognosisand treatment plans
• Effective verbal and non-verbal communication within the wider MDT
• Effective communication with external agencies
• Deals with emotional and distressing circumstances
• Attendance at staff and other service meetings

To support service development and planning

• Support the Therapy lead in the planning and day to day organisation of service provision within the clinical area including that for the prioritisation and assessment of assistant andtherapistsworkloads.
• Ideas are contributed to support service development and improvement
• Active participation in team and service developments
• Deputisationfor the therapy team leadsin their absence or in delegated areas of responsibility

To help to ensure the health,safetyand security of users of the ITS,selfand colleagues

• Participation inService and Trust mandatory training schedule
• Awareness of and adherence to Service and Trust Policies and Procedures
• Implementation of Trust Infection Control procedures including support for implementation within the team
• Competence in the safe use of therapy equipment and delivery of training to other members of the team in the safe use of therapy equipment
• Management of clinical and physical risk within own patient caseloadand support provided for other therapy staff and students to do so
• Timely reporting of adverse occurrences via Datix
• First line resolution of complaints and information gathering for formal complaint responses
• Maintenance of HCPC registration
• Practice within CSP Scope of Practice and Professional Code of Conduct

To support the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda within the ITS

• Active participation in Service Clinical Governance groups
• Demonstration of clinical,professionaland legal responsibility for patient care within scope of practice
• Identification of audit topics, completion of same and support for other audit and research activities within the team and wider service asappropriate.
• Presentation of audit findings and action plans to the team and wider as appropriate
• Evidence of support for the development and implementation of local and national clinical guidelines within the team and the wider service asappropriate.

To support equality of opportunity and access within the ITS for both staff and patients.

• Knowledge of personal responsibilities related to Equality and Diversity (E&D) and support for others to do the same
• Recognition of cultural,socialand other issues and how they can be incorporated into treatment plans
