It's been an exciting year for the Enhanced support Midwifery team, and we would love for you to come and join us.

We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and motivated midwife with an advanced level of expert knowledge and skills which will be utilised to manage, develop and lead care for pregnant and new mothers with mental health needs.

You will work in partnership with a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team from midwifery, health and social care to provide and co-ordinate the highest standards of care for women and their families with perinatal mental health concerns and complex social issues.

You will support their colleagues through coordinating care; providing training and guidance in maternal mental health for key maternity staff, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises mental health and wellbeing.

You will demonstrate an advanced level of expert knowledge and skills which will be utilised to manage, develop and lead care for pregnant and new mothers with mental health needs.

To be responsible for providing extra support and care to some pregnant women with more severe mental health problems this will be in partnership with their own midwife and specialist community mental health team.

You will work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual needs.

You will perform a key role within the Enhanced Support Midwifery team.

Within this role it is essential to develop and maintain high standards of care for women and their families with complex social needs and challenges in pregnancy and the postnatal period.

You will work in partnership with a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team from health and social care to provide and co-ordinate the highest standards of care for women and their families with varied complex social needs.

  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to co-ordinate, and contribute to a specialist service for women and their families with complex social issue and mental health concerns.
  • Have up to date knowledge of local services available to pregnant women in relation to their mental health needs.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication systems within the service and act as point of contact for staff and other departments within the Trust.
  • Advocate on behalf of others.
  • Provide and receive highly complex information which requires empathy and reassurance and often involves overcoming barriers to understanding.
  • Support, assist and advise women with or at risk of perinatal mental illness and their families to supplement the care provided by their midwives.
  • To communicate effectively and empathetically with relatives of patients.
  • To ensure that urgent findings are communicated and patients are directed accordingly.
  • Ensure that incidents are reported to the Clinical Services & Quality Manager inaccordance with trust policy
