Job Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced

Heating Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, servicing, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of domestic and commercial heating systems.

The ideal candidate will have comprehensive heating, gas and plumbing qualifications, strong technical knowledge, excellent workmanship and a professional approach to customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, maintain and repair domestic and commercial heating systems.
  • Diagnose and rectify heating system faults efficiently and safely.
  • Install, commission and maintain boilers, central-heating systems, hot-water systems and associated equipment.
  • Carry out boiler servicing, repairs and replacements.
  • Install and maintain radiators, pumps, valves, cylinders, expansion vessels and heating controls.
  • Install and maintain gas appliances where appropriately qualified.
  • Carry out gas safety checks and relevant testing.
  • Complete system upgrades, replacements and energy-efficiency improvements.
  • Undertake plumbing works associated with heating installations.
  • Carry out system flushing, cleaning and water-treatment procedures.
  • Complete installation and service documentation accurately.
  • Ensure all work complies with current UK legislation, manufacturer instructions and industry standards.
  • Maintain excellent health and safety standards.
  • Provide professional advice to customers and explain work carried out.
  • Work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Participate in emergency call-outs and out-of-hours work where required.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should hold relevant qualifications appropriate to the work undertaken, including as applicable:

Gas Safe Registered with relevant domestic/commercial categories.

CCN1 - Core Domestic Gas Safety

CENWAT - Central Heating and Water Heating Appliances

CKR1 - Domestic Cookers

CPA1 - Combustion Performance Analysis

HTR1 - Domestic Open/Live Flued Gas Fires

DAH1 - Domestic Air Heating

  • Relevant

commercial gas qualifications, where required.

Unvented Hot Water Systems (G3)

Energy Efficiency / Domestic Energy Efficiency

WRAS Water Regulations qualification/certification where applicable.

Level 2 or Level 3 Plumbing and Heating qualification or equivalent.

NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing and Heating, or equivalent industry experience.

ACS Gas qualifications appropriate to the engineer's scope of work.

  • Relevant manufacturer training and accreditation for boilers and heating appliances.

Desirable Additional Qualifications

Heat Pump / Low Carbon Heating qualifications

MCS-related training/accreditation where applicable.

  • Air-source and ground-source heat pump installation experience.

FGAS qualification where refrigeration/heat-pump work requires it.

  • Solar thermal experience.
  • Smart heating controls and system commissioning.
  • Oil boiler qualifications, where applicable.
  • Commercial heating and boiler qualifications.
  • Unvented cylinders and hot-water systems.
  • Working at Height.
  • First Aid.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a Heating Engineer, Gas Engineer or Plumbing & Heating Engineer.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability.
  • Excellent knowledge of central-heating and hot-water systems.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manufacturer instructions.
  • Good understanding of heating controls and electrical components.
  • High standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work safely and independently.
  • Good customer-service and communication skills.
  • Ability to complete paperwork, digital job sheets and compliance records.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to manage time effectively.
