We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure. This role will be within our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term, while protecting the environment.
What you'll be doing?
- You will provide supportive environmental guidance across capital construction projects, helping contractors deliver work responsibly and in line with our standards.
- You will assist with our duties as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, while reviewing and monitoring contractor performance to ensure strong environmental compliance.
- You will play an active role in environmental planning, risk management, and project mobilisation, as well as supporting surveys, inspections, permitting, and the implementation of site controls and management plans.
- You will help drive effective waste management, duty‑of‑care compliance, and resource‑efficiency initiatives.
- You will carry out audits and assurance checks, attend coordination and restart meetings, and support investigations into incidents, near misses, and non‑conformances.
- You will help identify corrective and preventative actions, and you will collate, analyse, and report monthly environmental data and KPIs to support governance and continuous improvement.
- Above all, you will promote positive environmental behaviours and help ensure compliance with legislation, company standards, and regulatory commitments.
What you'll bring?
- Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor in a construction environment, ideally within utilities.
- A recognised environmental qualification, preferably degree‑level, and IEMA membership (or equivalent).
- Experience supporting environmental surveys, design mitigation, and coordinating environmental and ecological specialists.
- Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction best practice.
- Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Understanding of waste management and pollution prevention controls.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Self‑motivation, teamwork, negotiation skills, and confidence to present, work independently, prioritise workloads, and travel when required.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to collate data and produce accurate reports.
- A valid UK driving licence and the willingness to obtain further training including National Water Hygiene qualifications (training provided).
