We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Neurologist to join our well-established Neurology Directorate at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a regional tertiary neurosciences service, supporting patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria while developing your clinical, teaching, leadership and research interests.
Our Neurology service provides specialist acute and outpatient care for a population of approximately 1.8 million people. You will join a supportive multidisciplinary team of consultant neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuroradiologists, neurorehabilitation consultants, specialist nurses, doctors in training and allied health professionals. This post offers an attractive balance of outpatient neurology, inpatient input, multidisciplinary working, on‑call participation, teaching and service development.
We welcome applicants who are committed to delivering high-quality, patient‑centred care and who want to contribute to the ongoing development of neurology services across the region. The successful candidate will provide consultant‑level neurology input across outpatient, inpatient and multidisciplinary settings. Clinical activity will include outpatient clinics at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and, depending on service need, peripheral hospital sites. The final job plan will be agreed through the consultant job planning process.
Some of the duties will include:
- Providing high-quality direct clinical care for neurology patients.
- Contributing to multidisciplinary team working and support coordinated care across hospital and regional pathways.
- Participating in the neurology on‑call rota, currently operating on a week‑on basis.
- Supporting inpatient care and investigation through access to beds within the Regional Neuroscience Unit at Royal Preston Hospital.
- Providing outpatient clinics at Royal Preston Hospital and other sites according to service need.
- Contributing to audit, clinical governance, service improvement and patient safety activity.
- Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of doctors in training.
- Maintaining professional development and participate in annual appraisal, revalidation and job planning.
