A Vacancy at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. LTHTR, along with significant investment in our Community Diagnostic centre, resulted in us expanding our Consultant Radiologist numbers to support additional work. Specifically, we are looking to appoint a Consultant Radiologist with expertise and interest in Cross-sectional and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology (NVIR).

The role will include:

  • In-patient CT body reporting sessions
  • Attendance and participation in relevant MDT meetings
  • Participation in the on-call rota

Candidates with additional experience in other areas are encouraged to apply. Where possible, we try to encourage development of subspecialty interests that fit with the departmental needs and availability of suitable sessions.

The successful candidate will support general Radiology, assist in the smooth running of the Directorate, and work with colleagues in the provision of an effective and efficient service. The post will be based at Chorley and Preston Hospital sites as well as sessions at the Community Diagnostic centre depending on subspecialty interest.

You should have completed the Radiology training (be within 6 months of CCT or have obtained CESR) and should have sufficient skills to be able to independently report MRI, CT, and US examinations within their areas of subspeciality expertise. You will be expected to provide cross-sectional and non-vascular interventional reporting and support for various MDTs.

The post will involve 10-programmed activities of imaging support (7.9 DPAs plus 1.5 SPAs and 0.6 for on-call) and will be expected to take part in the management of the service and attend meetings of the Diagnostic Imaging Directorate, the Medical Staffing Committee, and such other committees you may be appointed to by clinical colleagues. You may be expected to attend meetings convened by management, which directly affect the work of your department.

Duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Radiologist in a similar sized Radiology Department in the UK. The majority of your time will be spent on clinical duties. In addition, you will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and ongoing audit programmes within the directorate as well as a full range of management duties commensurate with this role.

The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, including SPECT scanning, Oncological Radiology, and Mammography service.

At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, you will work as part of a collaborative, friendly, and caring team where you will be valued for who you are. We will support you to achieve your personal goals and to build the career you want.

As a member of our team you can expect that:

  • You will continue to develop your career working with a collaborative and supportive team, alongside innovative and nationally renowned clinicians who are specialists in their field.
  • You will be an integral part of MDT and the clinical team.
  • You will be involved in teaching and supervision of trainees, undergraduate medical students, and other learners.
  • You will have access to office space and secretarial support.
  • You will have flexible working opportunities.
  • You will have protected time to develop your specialist interests in audit, research, and education, this will be agreed through the job planning process.
