About the role
As a
General Assistant with Sodexo at HMS Nelson, Portsmouth , you'll play an important role in supporting the day-to-day catering operation on a busy Ministry of Defence site.
This is a varied, hands-on position that's about much more than working in one area.
You'll help keep our kitchens and stores running smoothly, from receiving and moving stock to delivering meals across the base and supporting our catering teams when needed.
You'll join a friendly, hands-on team who enjoy working alongside the military, where flexibility and teamwork are a big part of the role.
What you'll do
- Deliver meals and catering supplies to different locations across the base, including ships.
- Receive, check and put away deliveries, reporting any discrepancies when required.
- Carry out weekly stock counts and help maintain accurate stock levels.
- Move stock from the stores to kitchens and other areas across the site.
- Support with ordering and replenishing stock for kitchens and stores.
- Use internal systems to support ordering and day-to-day stock requirements.
- Keep stores, equipment and delivery transport clean, tidy and well maintained.
- Support within the kitchens, galley and dining areas when required.
- Work flexibly across the site's three kitchens and stores depending on operational needs.
- Build positive relationships with colleagues, customers and our military client.
- Follow all food safety, health & safety and site procedures.
What we're looking for
- A clean driving licence is essential.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Confidence using basic computer systems.
- Good attention to detail, particularly when handling stock and deliveries.
- A flexible approach and willingness to support different areas of the operation.
- Ability to work independently when required as well as being part of a wider team.
- Previous experience within catering, hospitality, stores, stock control or a similar environment would be an advantage, but training can be provided for the right person.
- Previous experience within a military environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Due to security requirements you must have been continuously resident in UK for last 3 years to apply for this position
