A baby girl, 2 years old, living in Beddau with her mum, dad and younger sister requires a PA to support mum with day-to-day needs. I have complex health needs, which are a diagnosis of hemimengalencephaly with right sided facial hypertrophy, macrocephaly and ventriculomegaly. I used to have many seizures but this is now under control following an operation. I am fully dependent on my mum for every aspect of my life and this will always be the case. I am orally fed puree foods and my milk and meds via an NG tube. I sit in a specialist seat to support my posture.

PURPOSE OF JOB

At home support to work alongside my mum to provide my daily needs.

HOURS OF WORK

15 hours per week. Over 3 – 4 shifts. Additional hours may be available on occasion.

RATES OF PAY

£14.25 per hour. Mileage of 40p per mile.

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Working alongside my mother to provide assistance as and when required, always taking instruction from her.
  • Personal care which includes changing nappies and getting me dressed after a bath. To start with you won’t have to assist with bathing, just be present when my mum bathes me.
  • Supporting my mum to take me to health appointments – I have quite a few each week.
  • Attending play groups either with my mum or just me and you.
  • Taking me for a local walk in my specialist buggy.
  • At some point you will assist with my feeding, but you’ll need appropriate training first.
  • You will not be required to support with any aspect of my medication routine.
  • Undergoing any training associated with the role which includes feeding and manual handling.
  • Playing with me/keeping me occupied while my mum completes a chore / catches up on housework.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • Someone who is understanding of my medical needs and can manage any issues I may experience when we are together.
  • You must be reliable, caring and friendly.
  • Common sense and attention to detail is important, for example, noticing if I am having / or about to have a seizure. This will be part of training.
  • Respect for confidentiality and working in the home.
  • Someone who can easily and willingly take instruction from my mum how to care for me.
  • Quick learner is essential.
  • Previous care experience, whether personal or in a caring environment (school/dom care/support worker) is helpful but not essential.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority. All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins. Although this is a part‑time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period. Wages will be paid on a monthly and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
