Duties as Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide full-time support in a Year 1 classroom
  • Assist with small groups, interventions, and 1:1 support where required
  • Support early literacy, numeracy, phonics and wider learning tasks
  • Help maintain consistent behaviour expectations and positive routines
  • Contribute to SEND support where appropriate
  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and daily activities
  • Promote pupils’ social, emotional and personal development
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil welfare

Ideal Year 1 Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting pupils in KS1, especially Year 1
  • SEND experience is beneficial
  • Calm, patient, and nurturing approach to young learners
  • Confident delivering small‑group and individual support
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to follow teacher direction and use initiative appropriately
  • Reliable, proactive, and committed to supporting pupil progress
