This SEND Teaching Assistant role offers a full-time, temporary to permanent opportunity within a supportive school setting from September 2026. The SEND Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching and SEN staff to support pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop independence. This role is ideal for a qualified Level 2 Teaching Assistant who is passionate about inclusive education and looking for long-term progression.
Duties as SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Support pupils with special educational needs on a one-to-one or small group basis
- Assist pupils to access the curriculum through adapted and differentiated activities
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to implement support strategies
- Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
- Assist with personal care or additional needs where required, following school guidance
- Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Holds a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (essential)
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting
- Understanding of inclusive practice and SEND strategies
- Calm, patient, and supportive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Willingness to start on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
