The predicted salary is between 46134 - 56386 £ per year.

A permanent post to establish and run an exciting new Thoracic Prehabilitation service across RBH and HH in alignment with an already established service at Guys Hospital. The role includes both virtual and face-to-face assessment of patients undergoing thoracic surgery for suitability of an exercise group, and running of the exercise group. The role also includes education of patients regarding their upcoming surgery and post-op recovery.

The post holder will be required to work cross site at RBH and HH, with access to a free shuttle bus. The trust has a strong research identity with other benefits of working at the trust including 10 days of study leave a year and comprehensive In-service training programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake a high specialist team leader role alongside the physiotherapy clinical specialist in delivering the physiotherapy prehabilitation service to patients undergoing Thoracic Surgery.
  • Take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have highly complex needs, determining clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated, maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Supervise junior team members within the prehabilitation physiotherapy team.
  • Work collaboratively with wider members of the Rehab and Therapies department to provide high quality care for prehabilitation patients.
  • Be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of the prehabilitation team.
  • Play a significant role in the continuous development of the Trust as a member of the Rehabilitation & Therapies Management team.
  • Support co-ordination of daily allocation of workloads within the physiotherapy team.
  • Implement a cohesive working relationship with key stakeholders.

This role will require staff to work in a variety of clinical areas including virtually. This role is predominantly based at RBH but the post holder will need to work cross-site as required.

Patient / customer care responsibilities include:

  • Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more junior staff to do likewise on a daily basis.
  • Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, organising this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • Assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Undertake an advanced comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills.
  • Formulate individualised and group-based management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements.
  • Communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines and patients.
  • Plan and organise efficiently and effectively with regard to patient management and use of time.
  • Be contactable throughout the working day via the bleep system.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise physiotherapy treatment/rehabilitation potential.
  • Provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers, patients and other professionals.
  • Give specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the Multidisciplinary team (MDT) regarding the medical management of patients with cardiorespiratory problems.
  • Co-ordinate and ensure effective delivery of the weekend services and any future 7 day services.
  • Be an active member of the overnight and weekend on-call service.
  • Be aware of health and safety aspects of your work and implement any policies required to improve the safety of your work area.
  • Carry out risk assessments within own patient caseload and environment on a daily basis.
