This is a Fixed Term Contract until 31st August 2027. Are you someone with good analytical skills, able to review and interrogate data to produce reports that can support the work of our Trading Standards and Housing Standards teams and maximise outcomes for the local community? As an intelligence and data analyst your work would do just that across both teams, with a particular focus on the new Renters' Rights Act.

In this role, you will analyse, interpret and present data from a range of sources to help inform the decision-making process that enables resources to be allocated effectively, leading to positive enforcement outcomes. You will take the lead on identifying pro-active enforcement opportunities and investigating cases with a data-led approach. You'll also provide information for the preparation of relevant reports and returns, including statutory returns, relating to both the Trading Standards and Housing Standards Teams, as well as leading on the handling, storage and destruction of digital evidence obtained by officers during the course of their enquiries.

Both Trading Standards and Housing Standards are part of Regulatory Services, protecting local residents and ensuring a level playing field for legitimate businesses. The teams work closely together, and both are intelligence-led, their work focusing on matters that can cause the greatest harms or detriment. Trading Standards has a very broad public protection remit, including making sure the food we buy is safe and correctly labelled from the farm to the plate at home, in a restaurant or from a takeaway; that consumers aren't misled by inaccurate descriptions or promises, subjected to prohibited trading practices, or harmed by defective products. Housing Standards has a vital role in protecting residents by ensuring that homes in the private rented sector, houses in multiple occupation, mobile home sites and other types of residential accommodation are safe, healthy, and well managed. The team works to improve housing conditions, enforce housing legislation, and take action against poor property management.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of IT systems and databases
  • Has a good knowledge and understanding of the principles of project management
  • Is able to work effectively with colleagues across both teams and develop an understanding of the areas that are key to each
  • Able to analyse complex data and identify patterns and trends, to develop insights
  • Able to demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy as well as excellent written and oral communication skills

Provisional date for interview 16th September.

We value our colleagues and have developed a number of benefits in addition to our generous annual leave starting at 25 days + bank holidays, sick pay and local government pension scheme:

  • Access to a range of benefits via our Employee Benefits Platform, including in-store and online discounts as well as our Cycle to Work and Home & Electronics schemes
  • Buy up to 10 days additional annual leave (pro-rata)
  • Access to car lease scheme
  • Take your bank holidays flexibly to better suit your personal circumstances
  • Make Additional Voluntary Contributions (Shared Cost AVCs) to your pension with tax and National Insurance savings
  • Access to development opportunities including apprenticeships to support your personal and professional growth
  • Paid volunteering hours each year so you can make a positive impact on our community during your normal working day
  • Access to our equality, diversity and inclusion network
  • Opportunities to receive Employee Recognition Awards
