We are a small, established construction company based in Peterborough, and we are looking to expand our team with an experienced and reliable Stores Person.

The Stores Person is responsible for the efficient management of the company's stores and materials, ensuring construction materials, tools, and equipment are received, stored, controlled, and issued accurately.

The role includes stock control, stock rotation, deliveries, vehicle operation, and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stores and Stock Management
  • Receive, inspect, and record incoming deliveries of materials, tools, equipment, and consumables.
  • Ensure all materials are stored safely, securely, and in designated locations.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and inventory systems.
  • Carry out regular stock checks and stocktakes.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management.
  • Implement and maintain effective stock control procedures.
  • Ensure correct stock rotation practices are followed to minimise waste, damage, and obsolescence.
  • Issue materials and equipment to site personnel and maintain accurate records of all transactions.
  • Identify and report damaged, defective, or missing stock.
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of construction industry materials, products, tools, and equipment.
  • Understand the storage requirements for various construction materials, including hazardous substances where applicable.
  • Assist site teams in sourcing and preparing materials required for projects.
  • Ensure materials are handled and stored in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and company procedures.
  • Deliveries and Vehicle Operation
  • Drive company vehicles to collect and deliver materials, tools, and equipment to construction sites and suppliers as required.
  • Ensure all deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Carry out routine vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure loads are secured correctly and transported in compliance with road traffic regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Comply fully with all company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised stores environment at all times.
  • Conduct manual handling activities safely and use appropriate lifting equipment where required.
  • Ensure safe storage and handling of hazardous materials and substances.
  • Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, and unsafe practices immediately.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Support the company's commitment to achieving the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • General Duties

  • Maintain stores documentation and filing systems.
  • Support operational teams with logistics and materials planning.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as required by management.
  • Knowledge and Experience
  • Good knowledge of construction industry materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Experience in stores, warehouse, stock control, or construction materials management.
  • Understanding of stock control systems and inventory management.
  • Experience of stock rotation and materials handling procedures.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within construction or warehouse environments.
