Locally Employed Doctor ST3+ Anaesthetics and ITU

The post holder will participate in a 1 in 8 full shift rota covering Critical Care or Obstetric Anaesthesia.

The successful candidates will be working 7 nights, 7 long days (08:00-20:30) in an 8 week period and 7 twilight shifts over a 16 week period.

The remainder of shifts are 08:00-17.30.

The rota is fully compliant with the European Working Time Directive including internal cover.

Any sub-specialist interest in Anaesthesia would be encouraged, and we would endeavour to incorporate it into the working program.

In addition, we have an active educational program and would support and encourage the acquisition of the FRCA Primary or Final, if required.

The Anaesthetic Department provides services at Peterborough City and Stamford Hospitals (chronic pain management), with some consultants doing ad hoc lists at Hinchingbrooke.

The work undertaken by the Department includes all the surgical specialities with the exception of cardio-thoracic, major vascular and neurosurgery.

Peterborough Maternity Unit within the Hospital has more than 5500 deliveries a year.

The epidural rate is approximately 25% of the normal deliveries, and 98% of elective caesarean sections are performed under regional anaesthesia.

All ten weekly sessions are Consultant covered and Consultants participate in the teaching and supervision of anaesthetic juniors, the collection of data for audit and in the anaesthetic assessment of complex or obese patients.

The Obstetric Anaesthetic cohort of consultants maintains close links with other maternity units in the Eastern Region via the East Anglian Obstetric Anaesthesia Group (EAOAG).
