Job Description

This role is for a dedicated and detail oriented Electrical Estimator to support a wide variety of commercial, retail and industrial projects typically ranging from £10,000 to £1,000,000 in value. Reporting to the Executive Manager, you’ll take the lead in preparing accurate bids, tenders and estimates, whilst continually improving our estimating processes. You’ll play a key role within the team and work closely with our clients to understand the project needs, all whilst ensuring that every project is delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and to the highest standard of client satisfaction. This is a key role within the team, contributing to strong communication, collaboration, and a culture built on Building, Sharing and Caring throughout project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of electrical estimating, bringing proven experience from a similar role.
  • Review and interpret contract design and construction drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Analyse documents, scope of works, material and time calculations for electrical installations.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities during the estimating and tendering process.
  • Collaborate with the client, their agent or on-site personnel to gather the information necessary for accurate estimates.
  • Prepare and submit competitive bids, tenders and estimates under the guidance of the Executive Manager.
  • Obtain, review and negotiate quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
  • Assess project profitability and suggest ways to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepare valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of project budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Attend regular site meetings with clients and project teams.
  • Support all project management activities and be involved in managing projects to ensure the continuity and productivity of the department during quieter estimating periods.
  • Manage allocated projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover when required.
  • Assist with the planning, programming and coordination of electrical works, labour, materials, plant and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress against programme, budget and agreed timescales, identifying and addressing any issues at the earliest opportunity.
  • Manage project variations and ensure additional works are appropriately identified, priced, recorded and agreed.
  • Work closely with the wider project team to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all project documentation, records, drawings, quotations and relevant information are maintained accurately and up to date.
  • Assess project profitability and monitor financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and implement improvements to any aspect of the service that we provide.
  • Support the procurement of new clients, suppliers and subcontractors and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Promote and monitor Health & Safety practices on site and ensure works are undertaken in accordance with Company procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Monitor and report on job profitability.
  • Regular use of bespoke computer systems and other software packages (Word, Excel, Project) as part of your day to day work.
  • Duties and responsibilities will vary in line with progress.
