We're looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Advanced Communication Specialist (BSL) to join a welcoming and inclusive Further Education college in the Oxford area this September. You'll play a vital role in helping learners access education, develop independence, and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.
The Opportunity
As an Advanced Communication Specialist (BSL), you'll provide specialist communication support to deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deafblind learners, helping them fully engage with college life and achieve their academic, personal, and career aspirations. Working closely with lecturers, learning support teams, and wider college staff, you'll use your British Sign Language skills and communication expertise to remove barriers to learning, promote inclusion, and empower learners to reach their full potential.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting learners to access lessons, workshops, and all aspects of college life
- Using British Sign Language (BSL) and other communication methods to facilitate learning and understanding
- Building learners' confidence, independence, and self-esteem
- Supporting study skills, literacy development, note-taking, and organisation
- Encouraging learners to achieve their EHCP targets and personal goals
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment
- Providing communication support during educational visits, work experience placements, and examinations where required
What We're Looking For
- BSL Level 1, 2, or 3 qualification
- Confidence communicating using British Sign Language
- A positive, patient, and learner-focused approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine passion for supporting learners to achieve their potential
- Experience within education, SEND, learner support, or communication support is desirable
