Role Overview: To lead and effectively manage the council’s Strategic Transportation team, you will help to manage and improve Oldham’s transport network by providing knowledgeable technical input and advice in support of the council’s Transport Strategy, working with internal highways colleagues on the commissioning of the Highways Capital Programme and provide the key liaison between the council and Transport for Greater Manchester.
Key Responsibilities:
- To lead the development and delivery of the Oldham Transport Strategy, enable the delivery of Transport and Highways Programmes and the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Strategic Transport team and facilitate an efficient and effective deployment of its resources to achieve its work programme.
- To ensure the delivery of a range of strategic transport investment programmes and to enable an increase in active travel in the borough.
- To represent the Council in dealings with internal and external stakeholders such as Councillors, Council committees and meetings, other local authorities, government bodies, other public sector organisations and private sector companies and suppliers.
Key Requirements:
- Qualification as a Chartered Engineer or similar professional qualification.
- Experience at a senior level in relation to transportation related activities in a large organisation.
- Experience of extensive and effective partnership working with a variety of key partners and stakeholders, including resolving conflict between internal and external partners.
- Experience of presenting complex information to a range of stakeholders (Councillors, committees, senior management, public sector organisations and Government departments) both verbally and in writing.
