An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant to support the work of the Occupational Therapists (OT) at HMP Wormwood Scrubs. Wormwood Scrubs is a large Category B remand prison serving the diverse population of West London.

The OT team is part of a broader health and wellbeing team comprising OTs, a speech and language therapist, psychology, primary care mental health, and substance misuse workers. The post offers the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of individuals with complex health and social care needs, including those with mental health and personality disorder, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorder, as well as those who have physical health needs.

There will be the opportunity to provide input into a varied activity-based group programme as well as a psycho-education programme. The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work alongside OTs to implement care plans as laid out by the OT team.

The post holder will be required to support the delivery of care currently in the form of New Models of Care, enabling the service to meet the London Wide service specification standards for Prison Healthcare. The post holder will receive regular individual supervision to support their practice, as well as opportunities to engage in reflective practice groups.

The team has a strong emphasis on support and training, with a regular internal programme of training, as well as funding external providers for specialist needs. The successful candidate will be contributing to the team's efforts to build back services following the pandemic, ensuring high quality mental health services to meet the needs of those in prison.

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services, you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that falls under Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.
