Haemodialysis Sister / Charge Nurse, Lucy Deane Renal Unit

A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

A shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support, developing and evaluating best practice within the department.

The post holder will deputise for the department manager as required.

The main unit at UHCW is a 30 station unit which operates Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays, am to 2300 and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturdays 0700 to 1930

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, compassionate, dynamic and experienced nurse to join our team as a Band 6.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the dialysis unit as team leader as part of a flexible working pattern which includes on call responsibilities and weekend working.

We have many resources to support your development with a vast amount of support working alongside our multidisciplinary team.

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct.

  • Maintain effective and supportive communications with evidence of well developed communication skills, able to effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policies and care pathways to patients, carers, nursing staff and the multi- professional team.
  • Act as a skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the senior nursing team.

Able to coordinate a shift effectively, supporting and acting as a role model to nursing staff to develop management and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.
  • Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited.

This will include participating in the Quality Assurance Reviews to review patient care and act on blood results that are out of an acceptable range.

  • Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e. g imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.
  • Participate in service /policy development, involving patients and public, for example, clinical guidelines, clinical operative procedures and patient information leaflets.
  • Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate, for example, sickness and absence, skill mix for shift patterns, complaints.
  • A knowledgeable resource for nursing staff, able to give advice on national, local and Trust policy and procedures and guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
