Due to progression of the current post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacy technician to join our well-respected Theatres and Adult Critical Care pharmacy team. The successful candidate will become an integral member of our friendly, multi-disciplinary team, providing invaluable support to both specialist pharmacists and medicines management assistants, helping to optimise medications management within these areas.
The role will predominately support the provision of a medicines service across all NUH Theatres and theatre recovery areas. The post holder will also be trained to work across Adult Critical Care and the Enhanced Peri-operative Care Units (EPOC) cross-campus. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious clinical technician to enhance patient care and develop their own skills in these dynamic and fast-paced areas. Training will be provided to support the post holder to complete required NUH MMT validations if not already held.
- To manage an efficient, safe and effective medicines service to all Theatres and Theatre recovery areas across the NUH footprint.
- To liaise with Theatres Governance team and support DATIX incident investigations.
- To manage the service of Controlled Drug supply across the theatres complex, tracking missing signatures, noting any safety concerns and educating operating department staff.
- To line manage Medicines Management Assistants which may include supporting them through NVQ2 and NVQ 3 courses as needed.
- Take accurate and comprehensive drug histories for patients within the Critical Care and post-operative setting.
- Communicate effectively, clearly and concisely complex or sensitive information to a wide range of staff, healthcare professionals and patients where there may be barriers to communication.
- Check patients' own medicines for suitability for use on admission and at discharge.
- Ensure the timely supply of individual patient’s medication.
- Liaise with the pharmacy procurement team, to support the management of drug supply issues/national shortages relevant to critical care, EPOC and theatres.
- Oversee the management of the automated medicines storage cabinets by MMAs.
The post holder will be expected to work at Queens Medical Centre, City Campus and Nottingham Treatment Centre.
The postholder will be expected to participate in departmental weekend, bank holiday and late duty working as required. At the time of advertising, new post holders are required to work 1 in 4 weekends (1 full day or 2 half days). The current working hours are either 7am-3pm or 8am-4pm (if alternative working hours are required please add details to the application form).
