The Role: As a Junior Electrical Estimator, you will support the preparation of accurate and competitive tender submissions for a range of specialist electrical protection and infrastructure projects. Working closely with experienced estimators, engineers, designers and commercial teams, you will learn how to review technical specifications, assess project requirements and develop cost estimates that help secure new business opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their estimating career, or for an individual with an electrical background who is looking to move into a commercial role. Full training will be provided on Omega Red's specialist services, including lightning protection, earthing systems, surge protection and height safety solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for electrical projects, including materials, labour and subcontractor costs.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documents to help determine project scope and requirements.
  • Support the preparation of tender submissions, including pricing schedules, clarifications and supporting documentation.
  • Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and assist in evaluating costs and technical compliance.
  • Work closely with engineering, design and project teams to ensure estimates reflect practical installation methods.
  • Assist with site visits where required to understand project requirements and site constraints.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, pricing information and cost records.
  • Support the identification of project risks and opportunities during the tender process.
  • Assist with project handovers by providing cost breakdowns and tender information to operational teams.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and procedures.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Omega Red's specialist services and solutions through ongoing training and development.

What You’ll Need: Skills & Experience

  • A keen interest in developing a career within estimating, commercial or electrical engineering environments.
  • An understanding of electrical installation principles gained through education, apprenticeship, work experience or a related role.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and work to deadlines.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn and strong desire to develop professionally.

Qualifications

  • Relevant electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent) desirable.
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above desirable.
