An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Consultant Ophthalmologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with expertise in Oculoplastics. We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team of 24 Ophthalmic Consultants at Queen’s Medical Centre working together to make a difference to Ophthalmology services within Nottingham and beyond.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and be on the GMC Specialist Register for surgical Ophthalmology or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview. The Ophthalmology unit offers a comprehensive range of routine and specialist ophthalmic services and the post-holder will be expected to play an active role in the development and provision of the Oculoplastic sub‑specialty services for patients at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

A full range of Ophthalmology patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care. Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency Ophthalmic service. Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department. These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues, and the Trust.

The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times. Scope of work to include – eyelid, lacrimal, paediatric oculoplastics, orbits, eye casualty theatres clinics including 1:4 paediatric oculoplastic clinic. Flexible - Unplanned emergencies. In future may be asked to work weekends and evenings depending on the services demands and direction.
