This is an exciting opportunity to join Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) as a Consultant HPB and General Surgeon within a busy tertiary service, delivering specialist hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), Emergency General Surgery (EGS) and Major Trauma care to a large regional population.
The post offers a varied and rewarding role across elective and emergency pathways, including complex cancer surgery, MDT-led care, and outreach work, supported by a well-established multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting service growth, improving patient flow and outcomes, and contributing to NUH’s strategic priorities around high-quality care, performance and workforce sustainability, alongside opportunities in teaching, training and research within a major teaching hospital environment.
The post holder will deliver a comprehensive Consultant-led service across HPB, EGS and Major Trauma, providing elective and emergency care for a complex surgical population. Key duties include:
- Undertaking major and day-case operating
- Outpatient and outreach clinics
- Contributing to a high-volume tertiary HPB service within a well-established multidisciplinary team structure, including regular MDT participation

The post holder will provide a comprehensive Consultant-led service across HPB, EGS and Major Trauma, delivering both elective and emergency care for a complex surgical population. Duties will include:
- Undertaking major and day-case operating
- Outpatient and outreach clinics
- Contributing to a high-volume tertiary HPB service within a well-established multidisciplinary team, including participation in regular MDT meetings and departmental planning
The appointee will be responsible for the management of inpatients and emergency admissions under their care, ensuring continuity and high standards of clinical practice, and will participate in HPB, EGS and Major Trauma on-call rotas.
In addition, the role includes active involvement in clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvement, alongside contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within a major teaching hospital. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to participate in research and service development, supporting ongoing innovation and growth of HPB and general surgical services at NUH.
